Balanced Bay Nutrition
Our Story
Balanced Bay was founded to better serve the horse owner in improving the well-being of their cherished equine partner.
Growing up with a deep passion for horses, I knew that I wanted to be completely immersed in the equine industry. This led me to pursue a 4-year bachelor’s degree in equine management at the University of Guelph. However, during this time, my mare Piper was seriously injured and began to have metabolic struggles.
Dealing with this situation was incredibly challenging, and I felt that there was a lack of specialized support for her nutritional needs. I struggled to find a dedicated nutritionist who could provide personalized assistance without pushing a specific brand of feed. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Fueled by a desire to truly be there for the horse, I pursued a master’s degree in equine nutrition and founded Balanced Bay – an independent equine nutrition company.
At Balanced Bay, our mission is to provide science-backed solutions that prioritize the well-being of your horse. We understand that each and every horse is truly unique, so we curate nutritional programs to reflect that.
Choose Balanced Bay for a completely personalized and science-driven approach to equine nutrition. Your horse deserves the best, and we are committed to being there for you every step of the way.
“It definitely takes the guess work out of managing your herd. Having varying ages, breeds and body condition in my herd, the needs can vary drastically. Madeline will find a way to simplify what can feel daunting for someone caring for multiple horses with differing needs.”

About Madeline
Hello! My name is Madeline and welcome to Balanced Bay – my independent equine nutrition consulting company.
I attended the University of Guelph for my bachelor’s degree in Equine Management and master’s degree in Equine Nutrition. Yes, this means over 5 years of full-time University dedicated to equine science and nutrition!
During my masters, I focused heavily on equine obesity and metabolic issues as I know how difficult those issues can be to manage from personal experience with my two cherished ‘Balanced Bays’, Piper, and Finnegan.
I’ve continued to expand my education by gaining my Professional Animal Scientist (PAS) designation in the equine field, certification in hay sampling and completing additional courses in equine body condition scoring. A commitment to lifelong learning to ensure that I am continually deepening my knowledge to improve equine well-being is at the heart of what Balanced Bay is all about.
My goal is to create personalized nutrition programs that rely on the most up-to-date scientific information, with a focus of truly putting you and your horse first. I want your horse to love what they eat, and you to feel great feeding it to them.
Whether it is an elite sport horse or a pasture pony, having a balanced diet can make all the difference in their health and well-being.
